Amsterdam Airport Schiphol – Operational issues are causing long waiting times
We’re currently facing operational issues for flights departing from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. These issues mainly occur during the security check. Unfortunately, the waiting lines at the security check are much longer than usual, which strongly impacts the waiting time. Hereunder you will find the most frequently asked questions and answers:
How long before my flight departure should I be at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol?
What should I do when I missed my flight because of the long waiting time?
You can choose to be rebooked, or cancel your trip and receive a KLM Travel Voucher. Please check the KLM rebook/cancellation policy below.
If you wish to be rebooked, please proceed to a KLM Transfer Desk in the transfer area, after security.
Where can I find actual information about the situation at Schiphol for my flight?
What should I do if I am already checked-in, and travel with hand luggage only?
If you also already have your boarding pass, you can proceed directly to the waiting line for security.
If you travel with checked-in luggage, or need a boarding pass please proceed to the check-in desk or baggage drop-off machines indicated on the airport screens. Schiphol Floor walkers are available to answer any questions at the airport.
What do I do if I am in the waiting line, but I am sure I am not going to make my flight?
Once you passed security check and you are sure you will miss your flight, please proceed to a KLM Transfer desk.
What happens with my checked-in luggage when I missed my flight?
Your baggage will be returned at the address indicated in the report as soon as possible.
Your baggage will not be delivered on the baggage belts in the arrival hall.
What are my options if my flight is cancelled, delayed with more than 3 hrs, or if I want to cancel my flight myself?
Please check the KLM rebook policy below.

Crisis in Ukraine
Because of the current crisis in Ukraine, we have adjusted our flight routes and schedules. We continue to monitor the situation and will inform you here once there’s an update.
Impacted routes
On 12 February 2022, we decided to suspend our flights to Kyiv. This suspension was extended until further notice on 24 February 2022, following the closure of Ukrainian airspace.
In light of the current situation in the region, we’ve decided to suspend our flights to and from Russia and our flights through Russian airspace until further notice as of 26 February 2022. As a result, we have suspended our flights to and from Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
Does the flight suspension impact your travel plans? Check your ticket conditions to learn more about your options to rebook or request a refund.
Safety
Safety and security of our flights, customers, and crews is an absolute necessity. We always put the safety of passengers and employees first. Choosing safe and optimal routes is a standard part of our daily practice. We’re constantly monitoring the geopolitical situation in all areas we serve, to ensure the highest level of flight safety.
To determine safe flight routes, we use a security management system to analyse risks. For this, we also use information that is shared within the Dutch expert group, including all Dutch airlines, the intelligence services, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NCTV, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. Our decision not to fly over or to a specific country is based on the most current analysis at that time.
Aeroflot
Air France and KLM have temporarily suspended cooperation with Aeroflot, including the suspension of codeshare agreements and frequent flyer partnership.
